What is Depression?
Depression is an illness that affects your entire body. It affects your thoughts, moods, and body. It will affect your sleeping and eating also. Depression is related to changes in the brain, and consists of a chemical imbalance that carries signals from the brain to your nerves. Getting the proper treatment can help people that suffer from this condition. Symptoms from this condition are different for each person. They also depend on the severity of the condition. This condition affects more than 14 million people each year. It affects children, teenagers, and adults as well.
Causes of Depression:
There is no one cause of depression. There are some factors that make some people more likely to have this condition, but it can strike anyone at anytime. These factors include stress, trauma, family history, physical health conditions, or psychological disorders.
Symptoms of Depression:
There are many different symptoms of depression. There may be changes in your thinking process. You might experience problems with decision making, concentration, short term memory, forgetfulness. You may also start having negative thoughts such as, feelings of guilt, feelings of self worth, or self criticism. Some people suffering from a more serious form of depression may have self destructive thoughts.
You may have changes in feelings or moods. You might feel sad for no reason, lack motivation, become apathetic, fatigued, irritable, have difficulty controlling your temper, or no longer enjoy favorite activities. People with serious depression may have feelings of hopelessness and helplessness too.
Social withdrawal is another common symptom of depression. Your appetite and sleeping habits may change. You may cry excessively or complain a lot. You may even lose sexual desire. Some people have trouble getting out of the bed when suffering from depression.

Some people say depression is like an ominous black cloud of despair coming down over them. This condition can disrupt your life to the point where you can no longer function normally. Getting treatment for depression is extremely important because it not only affects you, but your family, friends, and work also. While there is no cure for depression, this is a treatable illness.

The way to get better and stay better is to take your medicine just as your doctor has prescribed it. It may take four weeks or more before you notice any changes. This medicine will take time to work before you feel the full benefits.
Other Therapies:
There are several different kinds of therapists that work with people suffering from depression. There are psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers. You need to find the right one that will treat your type of depression. This therapy may work on it’s own for some people , or it may need to be combined with medication for other people.
